Aeronautical data originators

Aeronautical data originators are organisations or individuals responsible for the accuracy of data and information published in the Integrated Aeronautical Information Package (IAIP) and aeronautical charts.

For more information or to become an aeronautical data originator, contact Airservices Australia.

What aeronautical data originators do

Aeronautical data originators must appoint individuals who will maintain the accuracy of published information. They may also have to notify safety critical information in NOTAMs – Notice to Airmen.

Appoint an AIP responsible person

Aeronautical data originators appoint a senior manager who must:

  • ensure they annually review their published information and notify Airservices Australia of any changes to information or data in the AIP
  • provide data and information to Airservices Australia as per data quality requirements documented in their data product specification.

The person also consults with aviation organisations before providing information to Airservices Australia. This is to confirm if information changes may affect other organisation’s operations or procedures.

Appoint a NOTAM authorised person

Aeronautical data originators must appoint a competent employee(s) as a NOTAM authorised person(s). This person can request the issue, review or cancellation of NOTAMs in accordance with the data product specification and documented data quality requirements.

A NOTAM authorised person must:

  • determine if the circumstance requires a NOTAM
  • ensure NOTAMs are issued, reviewed or cancelled in a timely manner
  • when requesting a NOTAM, ensure that any changes to existing published data is identifiable.

The person must also coordinate with aviation organisations before they provide information to Airservices Australia. This is to confirm if information changes may affect other organisation’s operations or procedures.

Liaise with Airservices Australia

Aeronautical data originators must provide Airservices Australia the names of the:

  • AIP responsible person
  • NOTAM authorised person(s).

This includes when new people take over the role.
