Environmental management

Our environmental management system (EMS) helps us improve our environmental performance and reduce the environmental impact of our operations.

Our environmental management system

The 5 elements of our environmental management system are:

  • environmental policy
  • planning
  • checking and corrective action
  • management review
  • implementation and operation.

These elements guide us to improve our environmental performance.

Environmental policy

Our environmental sustainability policy outlines our commitment to environmental protection. The policy provides a framework for ongoing environmental performance improvement.

Planning

We plan environmental targets and objectives to reduce our ecological footprint and develop programs to meet them.

Checking and corrective action

We regularly review our environmental performance. This is to make sure we’re meeting our:

  • environmental objectives
  • targets
  • policy commitments.

Management review

We conduct regular reviews of our EMS to make sure it's effective. We also to look for ways to improve it.

Implementation and operations

We ensure support mechanisms and capabilities are in place to implement our EMS, and reach our environmental goals.

To do this we:

  • define our environmental roles and responsibilities
  • maintain procedures covering the environmental effects of our operations
  • provide training
  • encourage environmental awareness among staff.

Reviewing our EMS

An external body conduct regular audits our EMS. This is to help us maintain our AS/NZS ISO 14001 (Standards Australia) certification.
