Gifts and benefits register

The Australian Public Service Commission (APSC) guides agency heads on accepting gifts and benefits, and declaring any gifts and benefits received on the agency website.

The APSC strongly encourages statutory agencies like CASA to adopt this guidance as best practice.

CASA staff accepted the following gifts and benefits, with an estimated value of more than AUD$100 (excluding GST). In addition to the items listed below, Pip Spence - CASA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Director of Aviation Safety (DAS), two current CASA Board members and two current CASA senior executives have been gifted membership to the Qantas Chairman’s and Virgin Beyond lounges. Estimated value is not quantified.

2023

  • 13 September: Regional Aviation Association of Australia (RAAA) invited CEO/DAS to RAAA gala dinner - complimentary as guest speaker at the RAAA Annual Conference. Estimated value is not quantified.
  • 31 August: CEO/DAS was invited and attended the Australian Aviation Awards Dinner. Estimated value is not quantified.
  • 29 August: Rex Airlines invited CEO/DAS to dinner hosted by the Rex Board. Estimated value is not quantified.
  • 24 August: Farewell gift for a departing Board member of a wooden box, pen and whisky. Estimated value of $389.
  • 23 June: Farewell gift for a departing Board member of jewellery, scarf and wine. Estimated value of $280.
  • 14 June: Australian Association for Unmanned Systems (AAUS) invited CEO/DAS to AAUS RPAS Conference and Gala Dinner - complimentary as guest speaker at the AAUS RPAS in Australian Skies 2023 Conference. Estimated value is not quantified.
  • 6 June: Air Sport Australia Confederation (ASAC) invited CEO/DAS to Sport Aviation Forum Dinner. Estimated value is not quantified.

2022

  • 7 December: Farewell gift for departing Board member of a Glass Vase and flowers. Estimated value of $296.
  • 24 August: Staff member received free attendance to a Rex Airlines 20th Anniversary event. Estimated value of $100.

  • 23 June: Crocodile Farms NT gifted a briefing and helicopter flight demonstrating crocodile egg collection operation to Tony Mathews, Pip Spence, Michael Bridge and Elizabeth Hallett in Northern Territory. Estimated value is not quantified.
  • 9 to 10 March: Australian Association for Unmanned Systems (AAUS) invited CEO/DAS to AAUS RPAS Conference and Gala Dinner - complimentary as guest speaker at the AAUS RPAS in Australian Skies 2021 Conference. Estimated value is $615.

2020

  • 3 December: CASA Board gifted farewell gift of a pen, box and card to CEO/DAS. Estimated value is $237.
  • 17 July: CASA gifted Qantas 747 farewell flight to CEO/DAS. Estimated value is $679.

2019

  • 22 November: Virgin gifted a renewal of complimentary Virgin The Club lounge membership to Chair CASA Board. Estimated value is not quantified.
