Medical certificate fees, payments and processing

You must pay the CASA application fee when you apply for your medical certificate in our Medical Records System (MRS) in myCASA.

Paying for your medical certificate

To pay for your medical certificate, log in to myCASA and select Medical Records System (MRS).

MRS offers a secure way to pay your fees by credit and debit card. We accept Visa and MasterCard.

The online payment facility is powered by Westpac. It works best on current versions of:

  • Microsoft Edge
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Google Chrome.

You must pay for all medical applications in MRS before you are able to submit.

Your DAME or the medical receptionist may facilitate you completing the payment through MRS. Where this is not possible, contact us.

For help using MRS, read the MRS - Class 1, Class 2, Class 3 medical certificate holders user manual (PDF, 1.38 MB).

Application processing fees

We charge for a range of regulatory services. Under Australian Government policy, our fees must recover the cost of providing our services.

The payment is not to provide a medical certificate, but for the work we do to process and consider your application.

Our fees apply to applications for all classes of medical certificates. The fee depends on the class, not whether it's for an initial issue or renewal.

However, if you are applying for multiple classes in the same application, you only need to pay a single processing fee of $75.

Our fees are separate to any consultation costs with your DAME. For medical examination costs, talk to your DAME.

Processing times

Our current service delivery standard for assessing an application for a medical certificate is 20 business days.

This timeframe begins from the time we receive:

  • payment for all fees
  • all documentation we require to assess the application.

If your medical is due to expire within the next 2 weeks and you are concerned that your application won't be assessed in time to meet your needs, contact us.

Also see our service delivery statistics page for our current service delivery performance.

We may require addition documentation to assist in the assessment of the application. These may include additional:

  • test results
  • medical specialist reports
  • information from the DAME.

There may be weeks to months between when we receive the application from the DAME and receiving additional documentation. The 20-business day service delivery time for processing the application can only be taken from receipt of the last required piece of documentation we need to assess your application.

Where a medical application is complete and does not require further tests or specialist reports, the current processing time is up to 4 weeks. However, complex cases which need to be assessed by a Complex Case Management (CCM) process can take an additional 3 to 4 weeks.

Where a medical application is complicated or requires additional test results or specialist reports to be submitted, the current average processing time is 50 days from receipt of the initial medical application form. This time is heavily impacted by the time it takes for:

  • applicants to complete additional tests
  • us to receive results or reports.

What you can do to prevent delays in process

There are several steps an applicant can take to help the process.

  • Pay the required fee in MRS before you submit your application in MRS.
  • Check with the DAME if additional tests are required for this medical. You can refer to the additional tests chart for further information on age-related tests which may be required.

Factors that will delay issue of a certificate

The things that will delay us from starting to process your application include:

  • no payment received by CASA
  • time to complete additional tests and receipt of results by CASA
  • time for CASA to receive specialist reports.
