Removing exclusions

You must apply to us to remove an exclusion from a:

  • licence category
  • type rating.

Removing an exclusion from a licence category

To remove an exclusion from a licence category, you must meet the theoretical and competency requirements. These requirements will be relevant to the excluded aircraft system you are applying to have removed. Requirements include:

  • basic knowledge and competency requirements. See 66.A.25 of the Part 66 Manual of Standards (MOS).
  • units of competency required for removal of an exclusion from a category or subcategory of licence. See Appendix VIII of the Part 66 MOS.

Only a Part 147 Maintenance Training Organisation (MTO) Licence category can provide exclusion removal training, examination and assessment. If you are seeking to remove exclusions from your licence category, you should contact an MTO.

The MTO you have undertaken your exclusion removal training at will notify us on your behalf of the successful completion of your training.

Note: The new self-study training pathway currently does not cater for removal of exclusions from a Part 66 licence.

Removing an exclusion from a type rating

To remove an exclusion from a type rating on your licence, you need to first remove the exclusion from your licence category.

After you removed the exclusion you will need to meet:

  • theoretical training and examination requirements. See 66.A.45 (d) of the Part 66 MOS
  • and practical training and assessment requirements (for the specific aircraft type). See 66.A.50 and 66.A.55 of the Part 66 MOS.

These must be relevant to the excluded aircraft system you are applying to have removed.

A Part 147 MTO, or by a Part 145 AMO (if approved by CASA to conduct 'type rating' exclusion removal training) may provide aircraft type rating:

  • exclusion removal training
  • examination
  • assessment.

The MTO or AMO you have undertaken your exclusion removal training at will notify us on your behalf of the successful completion of your training.
