Part 66 modular aircraft engineer licence - career pathways

To get a CASA Part 66 'modular' aircraft engineer licence, or an extension of privileges on the modular licence, an applicant needs:

  1. basic knowledge – (ref: 66.A.25 and Appendix I of 66 MOS)
  2. basic experience – (ref: 66.A.30 of 66 MOS)

This results in a licence issued without any type ratings. You can learn more on our become a licensed aircraft engineer page.

Career pathway examples

The following are examples of typical career pathways to obtain a Part 66 aircraft engineer licence in Category B1 (mechanical) or Category B2 (avionics), using the flexibility of the 'modular' training pathway.

Please note, for the following pathways:

  • B1 pathway: there is no specific requirement for you to gain the airframe licence as the initial licence.
  • B2 pathway: there is no specific requirement for you to gain the electrical systems licence as the initial licence.

How to read the tables

The headings of each table map the modular training pathway, whereby you can expand upon the privileges of your 'initial issue' licence (1st column) to a full licence (4th column).

Further information

For further information on the modular licensing pathway, see the Part 66 MOS.
