Career development at CASA

We invest in the growth and development of our people through:

  • continuous learning and development
  • study assistance
  • certified technical training
  • leadership development.

Study assistance

If you need to undertake further study that is relevant to your work, we may contribute part or all the cost. We also provide study leave.

Secondment opportunities

We support the professional growth of our employees through secondments either to other departments and agencies or other areas within CASA.

These secondments can help broaden employee knowledge of CASA, as well as the public service. While on secondment, your position remains yours so you can come back to your role and apply your new developed skills and knowledge.

Since 2021, we have engaged in the Jawun secondment program. This program connects participants with learning opportunities while supporting Indigenous organisations.

Our Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan gives employees an opportunity to participate in this secondment program. The Jawun secondment program is a partnership and shared value model with those involved in:

  • gaining new skills
  • knowledge and understanding
  • positive outcomes for Indigenous communities and personal and professional growth for secondees.

On the job development

We encourage staff to take a proactive approach towards their development. This includes job learning activities such as:

  • shadowing. This involves spending time observing and learning from staff in other sections or roles. Benefits include, gaining practical insights into the role or section, understanding different approaches, and expanding your network
  • extended activities. This can include:
    • assisting in project or surge work in another section
    • identifying additional responsibilities in your own section to gain specific skills, knowledge and experience.

Mentoring and coaching

Both mentoring and coaching are valuable ways to enhance your career development and build your networks. Mentoring can provide guidance, advice, and support for career development.

Coaching can also help by setting career goals and developing strategies for success. Coaches and mentors can be colleagues, external professionals, groups or networks.

Recognition

We value the contributions of our people. One way we show this is through our staff awards.

Employees can gain salary increases if they achieve their performance ratings and satisfy the eligibility criteria. You can learn more in clause 17 of our Enterprise Agreement 2023-2026.
