Pre-qualifications for pilot exams

Before sitting some of our exams, you may need additional requirements. This includes if you are completing either:

The requirements may include:

  • passing RPLA or RPLH and have commenced cross country training
  • achieving the competencies for the RPL
  • 5 hours pilot in command cross country time
  • any other requirements given in your approved ‘Integrated’ course of training.

If you are doing an integrated CPL course, check with your head of operations. They will help you make sure you meet the integrated course requirements before booking your exams.

For an overseas conversion, a valid* foreign CPL-A or ATPL-A licence

COSH – Overseas CPL-H conversion

For an overseas conversion, a valid* foreign CPL-H or ATPL-H licence

ATPL-A; including AALW, ANAV, AMET, AHUF, APLA, AFPA and AASA

An Australian CPL-A licence or a full set of all 7 subject-part CPL-A theory passes or for an overseas conversion a valid* foreign ATPL-A licence.

ATPL-H; including AALW, ANAV, AMET, AHUF, APLH, AFPH and AASH

An Australian CPL-H licence or a full set of all 7 subject-part CPL-H theory passes or for an overseas conversion, a valid* foreign ATPL-H licence.

AOSA – Overseas ATPL-A conversion

A valid* foreign ATPL-A licence

AOSH – Overseas ATPL-H conversion

A valid* foreign ATPL-H licence

IREX

The holder of an Australian PPLA or PPLH licence or higher grade of licence; or

  • have passed the PPL flight test
  • the holder of an Instrument Rating on their existing foreign licence, who has applied to get their Australian licence
  • a Certificate of Validation (CoV)
  • ‘UAV Controller’s certificate’ for UAV controllers
  • Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) for RPAS operators wanting to conduct BVLOS operations.

PIFR

At least a PPL(A) or PPL(H) licence or higher grade of licence.

PIRC

At least a PPL(A) or PPL(H) licence or higher grade of licence, or a Certificate of Validation (CoV).

AGRA At least an Australian CPL(A) licence or higher grade of aeroplane licence.
AGRH At least an Australian CPL(H) licence or higher grade of helicopter licence.
CLWB No 'pre-qualification' required
COPB No 'pre-qualification' required
ReB1 RePL licence

Valid* means we may accept foreign licences from an ICAO contracting state.

Foreign licences must not be:

  • restricted
  • suspended
  • cancelled
  • void
  • no longer valid
  • temporary
  • have any other restriction or limitation placed on them by the issuing authority.

We may still accept expired licences as long as it does not carry any of these notifications from the list.
